What counts as "high" humidity?

Above roughly 60% relative humidity, most people start to feel sticky or muggy, especially at warm temperatures. Below about 30%, air is considered dry and can cause skin, eye and throat irritation. Comfortable indoor humidity is generally 30–50%.

What is dew point, and why does it matter more than humidity?

Dew point is the temperature air would need to cool to for it to become saturated. Unlike relative humidity, which changes with temperature throughout the day, dew point tracks the actual amount of moisture in the air, which is why meteorologists treat it as the better measure of how muggy it will actually feel.

Why does relative humidity rise at night even with no rain?

Relative humidity is a ratio of actual moisture to the maximum the air can hold at that temperature — and that maximum falls as air cools. So even with the same amount of water vapour, humidity climbs overnight simply because cooler air can't hold as much of it.

How does humidity affect "feels like" temperature?

High humidity slows the evaporation of sweat, which is the body's main cooling mechanism, making hot weather feel hotter than the thermometer suggests. This is why the same temperature can feel very different in a dry desert climate versus a humid tropical one.

Relative Humidity vs. Dew Point

Relative humidity is expressed as a percentage of the maximum moisture the air could hold at the current temperature, which is why the same amount of actual moisture can read as very different percentages depending on the time of day. Dew point measures the actual moisture content directly and is generally the more reliable indicator of how humid it will genuinely feel.

Reading the Trend Chart and Forecast

The chart plots the last 24 hours of relative humidity, which typically rises overnight and falls through the afternoon as temperature climbs. The forecast strip extends the same model forward to +24 hours, useful for judging whether muggy conditions are expected to persist or clear.

Humidity and Comfort

Most people are comfortable in indoor relative humidity between 30% and 50%. Above 60%, moisture can encourage mould growth and make warm air feel oppressive; below 30%, air becomes noticeably dry, which can irritate skin, eyes and airways and make static electricity more common.
