Weather & Climate in Doha Port

Doha Port sits on the eastern seafront of Qatar's capital, on the Persian Gulf coast of the low, flat Qatari peninsula at approximately 25.29°N, 51.55°E. Directly exposed to the Gulf, it shares Doha's hot desert climate (Köppen BWh) — with extremely hot, humid summers and mild winters — with sea breezes and humidity a constant presence on the quayside.

Summer, from May to September, is extremely hot and humid, with July the hottest month — average highs around 41–42°C and sultry nights near 30°C. The Gulf loads the coastal air with moisture, so the 'feels-like' temperature on the exposed waterfront can exceed 50°C, and the sea itself becomes bath-warm. Rain is entirely absent for months.

Winter, from December to February, is warm, sunny and pleasant, with January the coolest month — average highs around 22–23°C and cool nights near 14–15°C. Humidity is lower, skies are clear, and the occasional shamal wind whips up choppy seas in the harbour. This mild, dry stretch is comfortably the best time of year.

Doha Port is extremely dry, receiving only around 75–80 mm of rain a year, almost all of it in brief, sometimes intense bursts between December and March, while the long summer is entirely rainless. Live rainfall, humidity, and pressure readings for the port are shown in the panels above.

Exposed on the Gulf, Doha's waterfront feels the full weight of the summer humidity that makes Qatar's heat so punishing — conditions that pushed the 2022 World Cup to the cooler winter months. The shamal, a strong northwesterly wind, raises dust and choppy seas across the harbour, most often in summer and early spring.
